Serious question… What happened to transparency and honesty? Have we forgotten how important they are? Or did we stop expecting them?
Last night, that question kept running through my mind.
It came after a conversation with one of my close friends. We were both trying to make sense of someone’s actions—actions that seemed to go against everything this person had told me they believed in over the years.
Why are we still acting like we’re in high school? Why do people play games instead of simply being honest? Why avoid answering direct questions with the truth?
The truth isn’t always easy to hear. Sometimes it hurts. But I’d rather hear an uncomfortable truth than be left wondering what was real. Honesty builds trust. Without it, how do we truly get to know one another?
I’ve made peace with what happened. I’m not carrying anger anymore. But I still find myself wondering why someone would choose dishonesty when they had every opportunity to be transparent.
One of the very first conversations we ever had was about the importance of honesty and transparency. We both agreed those were qualities we valued in our relationships. Looking back now, I can’t help but question parts of that friendship. Not because I need answers, but because actions have a way of making you rethink the words that came before them.
Maybe that’s the hardest part. It’s not losing the friendship—it’s realizing that what you believed about it may not have been true.
At the end of the day, honesty may be uncomfortable, but it allows people to move forward. Dishonesty leaves people filling in the blanks, questioning themselves, and wondering what was ever real.
Transparency and honesty aren’t signs of weakness. They’re the foundation of trust. And I hope we never stop expecting them from the people we choose to let into our lives.
